About Pilates
"Remember, too, that Rome was not built in a day, and that patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor."- Joseph Pilates
Pilates is a body conditioning program that was created by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century. Pilates is practiced all over the world and its devotees experience increased strength and mobility, enhanced overall fitness and improved quality of life and appearance. Pilates is based on fundamental biomechanics and employs five basic principles. These principles are the foundation of every exercise, ensuring that the body stays in correct biomechanical alignment and that only the requisite muscles are used. The foundation of Pilates involves activating the deep abdominal muscles to stabilize the lower spine once it is placed in a neutral alignment. Once proper stabilization is achieved, movement throughout the limbs becomes efficient. Pilates is enthusiastically endorsed by physicians, physical therapists and other clinicians who recognize the method as effective and purposeful. Pilates has a lasting and profound effect on the lives of all who study it.
